VID Core Business

VID has 23 depots nationwide i.e. Beitbridge, Belvedere, Birchenough Bridge, Bindura, Bulawayo, Chinhoyi, Chiredzi, Chirundu, Chitungwiza, Eastlea, Gwanda, Gweru, Hwange, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Marondera, Masvingo, Mutare, Nyamapanda, Plumtree, Rusape, Victoria Falls and Zvishavane.

Activities :
Vehicle Inspection
Testing for Learner's licence and Certificate of Competency.
Provision of expert evidence in court cases.
Who can be a driver in Zimbabwe?
Vehicle Inspection:

Vehicle Inspection is  conducted by to ensure roadworthiness, safety, and regulatory compliance a vehicle. It includes checks for private, commercial, and public service vehicles.

Types of Inspections

  • Certificate of Fitness (COF): Required for commercial and public service vehicles. Valid for 6–12 months depending on vehicle type.
  • Voluntary Inspection: Available for private vehicles to assess roadworthiness.
  • Garage Inspection: For vehicles maintained or repaired at registered garages.
  • Reinspection: Conducted if a vehicle fails the initial inspection.

  • Steering system.

  • Suspension system.

  • Braking system.

  • Wheels and tyres condition.

  • Trailer coupling.

  • Lighting system.

  • Vehicle and driver documents to compliance with law.
