To be a regional leader in the provision of safe and clean Inland Waterways by 2030

To facilitate the provision of safe and efficient Inland Water Transport Services while contributing towards the maintenance of Safer and Cleaner Inland Waterways.

Major Functions:
  1. Implementation and enforcement of the Inland Waters Shipping Statutes.
  2. Registering of Vessels.
  3. Conducting first and annual vessel surveys to guarantee the seaworthiness of boats, conducting boat inspections following compulsory repairs and major alterations.
  4. Examining and certifying prospective boat drivers.
  5. Conducting Lake Patrols and spot checks ?
  6. Managing Inland Waters Radio Control/
  7. Telecommunication system on declared inland water bodies.
  8. Co-ordinating Search and Rescue Operations.
  9. Installation and maintenance of aids to navigation on all inland water bodies.
  10. Guarding against non-economic or uneconomic duplication of shipping sevices through the permit system on Inland Waterways
  11. Conduct pollution surveillance on Inland Waterways particularly in harbours

  • National registration identity.
  • Registration fees
  • Agreement of Sale/ Affidavit.

Habour Inspections.

Prevention of water pollution and protection of the marine environment.

Inspection of Vessels.

  • Proof of ownership
  • Completed application form of survey(Form D)

Examinations for Certificate of competence Classes.

  • Examination fees.
  • Four colour drivers size photographs
  • Medical Examination
  • Ability to speak and understand English
